FAQ
What is Housing Headquarters?
Working alongside your insurance company, we help you find temporary housing after your home has been made uninhabitable by a fire, severe storm, tornado or other insured accident or natural catastrophe.
What are your rates?
We cost you nothing out-of-pocket. We are paid directly by your insurance company from the “additional living expense” portion of your claim.
I just lost my home. Can I hire you?
In order to provide the best possible service within our industry, we focus solely on serving the needs of insurance companies and their policyholders. If you are dealing with an insured loss, feel free to call us directly at 866-918-7356, and we will get started right away. Also, you may ask your adjuster to contact us directly and we’ll discuss the situation with him or her.
Can I be placed in ANY type of home I want?
Your insurance policy will usually dictate that your temporary housing be “of like kind and quality” to your own home. The policy may also often state the particular A.L.E. (Additional Living Expense) amounts available to you.
Will my kids be able to stay in their school district?
Most likely, yes. Our team takes into account special requests like these when searching for a temporary home for you.
Someone in my family has special physical needs. Will you be able to find a home that accommodates them?
If the home does not already have the appropriate accommodations, we will bring in and set up what they need, such as chair lifts, bed lifts and more.
Will our pet be able to stay with us?
We are typically able to find temporary homes that will allow most types of domesticated, family pets.
Are the homes furnished?
Most of the time the landlord does not furnish the homes. Housing Headquarters, however, has relationships with vendors that can provide short term furniture rentals. We also have the ability to rent appliances (washers, dryers, microwaves, etc.) and houswares (shower curtains, bath items, silverware, plates, bowls, etc.) to meet your needs.
What paperwork do I have to sign?
You are responsible for signing the residential lease for your temporary property after our specialists have read and approved the lease terms. You also sign an agreement to utilize Housing Headquarters’ services for your housing and furnishing needs and an authorization allowing your insurance company to pay us directly for your temporary relocation expenses.
How are Security Deposits handled?
Most frequently, the Security Deposit money will be advanced from the contents or other portion of your claim and will be refundable back to you. If this is not possible within your insurance company’s policies, we will work with you and your adjuster on other arrangements for deposit payments.
